Happy New Years Everyone!!!
source: http://www.npengage.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/new-years-hat-752x483.jpg
Rachel at Parajunkee did a post last week where she listed her 2013 blogging resolutions..so I thought I might do that as well! Below are my blogging resolutions for 2013!

1. Post More!
This past fall posts have been kind of slacking because of me going to college, but now that I am in the swing of things I definitely will make it a priority to post!

2. Comment More!
I really have been slacking in the comment department...I need to pick up my game! This coming year I will try my best to spread the blogger love and comment more.

3. Make a schedule!
I really need to make a schedule with book releases/when I need to review books. This past year I have been a little bit behind on reviewing because I didn't have a schedule.

4. Have fun :)
I just need to remind myself that blogging is fun and shouldn't be stressful! Maybe this year I will try out a new meme or two...or maybe make my own!

Have a great new year everyone and here's to an awesome 2013! Let me know in the comments what you think!

Goodreads

My Review:

When I started reading this book, I was a little worried that I wouldn't love it, especially because I could not entirely remember everything that happened in the last book.  However, I was surprised to found that I really enjoyed it!  Most of the characters were well-developed and interesting, the plot was intriguing, and everything important from the last book was re-explained throughout the sequel.

I liked how there really was not much of a love triangle in this book.  One of the reasons why I didn't love the previous book was because of the poorly crafted love triangle between Violet, the sweet caring Lincoln, and the mysteriously dark Phoenix.  By the end of the last book it became clear that Phoenix was mysteriously dark because he was mostly an evil man who liked Violet but was not afraid to kill her if she got in the way.  In this book, I really enjoyed how Violet did not continue to like Phoenix after it became clear he was not a nice man, like some authors might have done.  That being said, I loved the relationship between Lincoln and Violet.  It really developed throughout this book and it was nice to see their highs, their lows, and their (sometimes upsetting) realizations.

I also really enjoyed meeting all the new characters!  While I could not remember everyone from the last book, there were a wealth of new Grigori characters in this book that were truly interesting and fun to read about.  There is the fun-loving, party boy named Spense, who is always the first one to throw himself into the fight for the love of it; then comes the frank Zoe, who is not afraid to share her opinions, no matter what they are; last but not least is Sal, the cute Italian boy who does not speak English well but still falls for Violet's best friend, Steph, who is human.  In addition to the kids, there were also two new adult Grigori characters added in this book, named Nyla and Rudyard; these two represented what could have been the future Violet and Lincoln, and it was certainly informative to see how their life could have ended up.

Overall, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book!  It was a fun and interesting read and I will definitely be checking out the third book, Emblaze, when it comes out in March!

487 pages

Summary:

On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are--and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

My Review:
I have heard such amazing things about Divergent but I never got around to reading it. When I came home for college break I had to give this one a shot, especially since I have been a little bit of a reading slump lately. Boy, am I SO glad that I read Divergent!! Definitely a great dystopian read.

What I really liked about this book was the plot. It was really interesting to learn about the different factions and how this dystopian world works. I really liked the different action scenes in Divergent! As the book goes on, the action really picks up which is really great! I also love how there is somewhat of a mystery in the plot...nothing is as it seems and Divergent definitely isn't predictable! The world building that Veronica Roth writes is so amazing, I really felt like I was seeing things going on through Tris' eyes and I could actually imagine what was going on.

I LOVED the main character Tris. At first, I wasn't really sure what to expect of her..she seemed a little bit boring. As the book progressed, however, Tris really started to discover who she is and progressed SO MUCH as a character. The Tris from the beginning of the book is so different then the one at the end. I really loved seeing her grow as a character. I also loved reading about Four!! Everyone this past year in the blogging community made a huge deal about Four, and I hadn't read the books so I had no idea what to expect when starting this book. After finishing Divergent, I could see why so many people love Four. He is so great, he is really a tough guy and can be a little bit scary..but his moments with Tris really make my heart melt.

Overall, I really enjoyed Divergent! I'm really glad I finally picked this book up, and if you haven't you should check this book out.

But the Wilds are no longer a safe haven—pockets of rebellion have opened throughout the country, and the government cannot deny the existence of Invalids. Regulators now infiltrate the borderlands to stamp out the rebels, and as Lena navigates the increasingly dangerous terrain, her best friend, Hana, lives a safe, loveless life in Portland as the fiancĂ©e of the young mayor. Requiem is told from both Lena’s and Hana’s points of view. The two girls live side by side in a world that divides them until, at last, their stories converge.

Goodreads

My Thoughts:
I loved both Delirium and Pandemonium, and I cannot wait to read the final book in the series!  I am interested to see how Lauren Oliver will write the book in the dual points of view of Lena and Hana, especially since Hana was not even in the previous book.  Also, of course, I cannot wait to see what happens after the cliff hanger from the end of the last book, and what Lena will do!

What are you waiting for this week? Let me know in the comments!

Goodreads

My Review:
Why is Jennifer L. Armentrout so amazing? Seriously..I have yet to read a book by her that doesn't sweep my off my feet and get me so hooked on a series! Anyways, I absoutely LOVED Opal! From start to finish this book was flawless.
Of course, I loved the plot of Opal! After Dawson returning at the end of the last book, I wasn't really sure what to expect plot wise from Opal. Jennifer does a great job of picking things off where they ended in the last book. There really was non stop action from start to finish. I absolutely love the main character, Katy (otherwise known as Kitten by Daemon). She definitely has grown up so much from the first two books. and has become so much more independent then the first time we meet Katy in book one. As the story progresses I felt that she becomes a much more stronger female lead and figures out who she really is. Of course I loved Daemon's one liners..he is seriously amazing. One minute he can be the biggest jerk, but then the next minute he can be the sweetest guy ever. He really cares for Katy which I love.

I seriously loved every scene that Katy and Daemon were in. Seeing them together as a couple made me so happy. I loved seeing their relationship grow throughout the span of the book and they are just so adorable. The end of this book AH. Such a cliffhanger!!!! I thought the last book ended on a cliffhanger but this one definitely is worse. I CAN'T WAIT TILL SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!! I really don't want to give anything away but you will all be blown away by the ending!
Overall, I LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED OPAL! If you haven't read this series please go do so. You won't regret it!!!!!!

Goodreads

My Review:

I really enjoyed this book!  After loving the first one in the series and finding the second one to be not as good, I was happy to discover that I liked The Rise of Nine just as much as I did the first book!

One of my favorite parts of this book was all the different characters coming together.  I loved seeing the powers that each member of the Garde had (such as healing, fire, manipulating the weather, breathing underwater, and even teleportation) and how well they worked together.  I also enjoyed the switching point of views.  This book was told from the first-person views of Four, Six, and Seven, which I thought helped further develop their characters.  With numbers One, Two, and Three dead, this book brought the rest of the nine Garde together, with the exception of the still missing number Five and the addition of Ella, the young number Ten who was brought to Earth by a second ship.

There was a ton of action in this book, which I really enjoyed; it would definitely make for a great film, on the chance that the rest of this series is also made into a movie (the first book, I Am Number Four, is currently a movie, and there are rumors that the second book, The Power of Six, will be turned into a movie as well).  However, my biggest concern with this book was that there really was not much of a plot.  It mainly consisted of the surviving Garde coming together and fighting in some very cool action scenes; it was really just setting up for the next two books, when hopefully they will find number Five and save the planet.

That being said, I cannot wait for the next book!  Hopefully now that most of the characters are together, the plot will be able to develop further past just the action scenes.  If you are a fan of action books, the Lorien Legacies series and this book in particular will not disappoint!

Real Mermaids Don't Need High Heels Holiday Blog Tour

Hi everyone! Today I am participating in the Real Mermaids Don't Need High Heels Blog Tour!

Below is a recipe from the author, Helene Boudreau, and the main character of the series, Jade, in honor of the holidays and the books upcoming release!

Real Mermaids Festive Treats

Hi everyone! Jade here from Real Mermaids.

One of my favourite things about the upcoming holidays is the great treats we get to make and share. I love food so much, in fact, that I included a recipe for some of my favourite snacks in each of the Real Mermaids books.

My friend Cori and I thought we’d experiment a bit and ‘holiday-ize’ each recipe for you!

In Real Mermaids Don’t Wear Toe Rings, I was stuck at my Gran’s cottage without any chocolate in sight. That’s when I turned to Google and found a recipe for a 5-minute Chocolate Mug Cake. Yes! Cake in FIVE MINUTES. I added raspberries and whipped cream to this version. Holiday dessert, anyone?

Chocolate Mug Cake with Raspberries and Whipped Cream

First, get yourself the biggest microwaveable mug in the cupboard. Add:
- 4 tablespoons flour
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons cocoa

Mix it well. Then add:
- 1 egg

Mix. Then add:
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 3 tablespoons oil

Mix. Then add:
- 3 tablespoons chocolate chips (NOT optional—at least as far as I’m concerned)
- 1 capful of vanilla extract

And… MIX!

Cook in the microwave for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high). The cake will look like it’s going to overflow but don’t freak out! Let it cool for a bit (unless you want to burn your lips off) and add raspberries and whipped cream to make it fancy, then ENJOY!

Happy treats and have a great holiday, everyone!

Love,

Jade

416 pages

Summary:
Thanks to Connor, Lev, and Risa—and their high-profile revolt at Happy Jack Harvest Camp—people can no longer turn a blind eye to unwinding. Ridding society of troublesome teens while simltaneously providing much-needed tissues for transplant might be convenient, but its morality has finally been brought into question. However, unwinding has become big business, and there are powerful political and corporate interests that want to see it not only continue, but also expand to the unwinding of prisoners and the impoverished.Cam is a product of unwinding; made entirely out of the parts of other unwinds, he is a teen who does not technically exist. A futuristic Frankenstein, Cam struggles with a search for identity and meaning and wonders if a rewound being can have a soul. And when the actions of a sadistic bounty hunter cause Cam’s fate to become inextricably bound with the fates of Connor, Risa, and Lev, he’ll have to question humanity itself.
Rife with action and suspense, this riveting companion to the perennially popular Unwind challenges assumptions about where life begins and ends—and what it means to live.
Goodreads

My Review:

UnWholly was a great sequel to Unwind!  With plenty of action and character development, I enjoyed this book even more than the first one.

Throughout UnWholly, we learn more about the characters and how they have survived after the conclusion of the last book.  Not only were the old characters more fleshed out, but there were plenty of new characters that Neal Shusterman did a great job of introducing.  While the biggest villains (the Juvie Cops and Proactive Citizenry, who work to find and capture those kids whose parents have decided that they should be unwound, meaning their body parts should be removed and sold to other more achieving and "deserving" people) still play a vital role, there were also minor villains throughout the novel.  With a large group of kids destined to be unwound, most of whom are volatile, prone to fights, and generally unstable, all living together in one confined place (called the graveyard), there are bound to be those who start fights and create trouble.  Though the last book ended with the unwinding of the troublesome Roland, Shusterman created a great replacement for him named Starkey, who caused even more problems than Roland had.

Another great character was Cam, a boy who had not been born like a normal human, but was made solely from the unwound parts of others.  It was interesting to see his transformation from a boy who could not control the many different parts of his body (he could hardly string together coherent sentences or even walk) to a young man who was not only capable of handling himself, but could make his own decisions and choose his own path in life.  In addition to the new characters, Shusterman also did a great job developing his old characters, such as Connor, Risa, and Lev.  Throughout this book we see Connor struggle under his role as the leader of so many kids who are relying on him for their survival; we see Risa as she is swept into a whirlwind of events where she is blackmailed and forced to make decisions against her moral code; we also see Lev, who is worshiped as a God-like figure by many young kids, try to handle his new found role that is constantly in opposition with his personality.

I really enjoyed how this book told us more about the current situation of the world.  Shusterman created a place where parents are able to unwind their children, letting someone sell their arms, legs, eyes, brains, and every other body part to people just so that they would no longer be responsible for their unruly children.  It was interesting to see how the world had become this horrible place, and I loved watching Connor discover the history that the government had tried to hide.  Instead of focusing on just protecting the unwinds that make their way to the graveyard, Connor has now become interested in stopping unwinding and making a true difference in the world, and I cannot wait until the third book to find out what will happen next!

Format: Ebook

94 pages

Summary:
From New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Hand comes a riveting original novella (available only as an ebook) set in the world of the Unearthly series.

Clara is desperate to get away—from the memories that haunt her in Wyoming and the visions of a future she isn't ready to face—and spending the summer in Italy with her best friend, Angela, should be the perfect escape. . . .

For as long as she can remember, Angela has been told that love is dangerous, that she must always guard her heart. But when she met a mysterious guy in Italy two years ago she was determined to be with him, no matter the costs. Now she must decide whether she can trust Clara with her secret, or if telling her the truth will risk everything she cares about.

Alternating between Angela and Clara's perspectives, Radiant chronicles the unforgettable summer that will test the bounds of their friendship and change their lives forever.

Goodreads

My Review:
While this read was really quick, it definitely was enjoyable! Radiant isn't necessary to read before reading the final book in this series, Boundless, but it was a great book to hold me over till Boundless is released!

I did wish Radiant focused more on the Angel mythology, but instead it focused on learning about Angela's life/her relationship with Phen. I liked learning about about Angela..especially since we don't know a lot about her! I feel like through the past two books in the Unearthly series Angela is always surrounded in mystery. After reading Radiant, I was really happy to learn more about Angela..especially the mysterious "italian boy" that we learn about in the second book in the series. It was also nice to see her and Clara in Italy..a nice change of pace from Wyoming!

I liked how each chapter switched from the point of view of Angela and Clara, so we really got to see their thoughts on what was going on. It was sad to see Clara still dealing with the grief of losing her mother and her brother running away in the previous book.

Overall, I enjoyed Radiant! Plot wise, it didn't really add any more knowledge to me for the series, but it was a fun read! If your looking for something to hold you over before Boundless is released, check this book out!

Thanks Netgalley and Kensington for giving me an ARC copy of this book!

Summary:
For a moment, a face flashed before my eyes—the most hideous face I’d ever seen. No matter how hard I tried to forget what had happened, I saw him everywhere I went. It was Loki—the evil god that I’d helped set free against my will.

I should have known that my first official date with Logan Quinn was destined to end in disaster. If we’d gotten into a swordfight, or been ambushed by Reapers, I’d have been more prepared. But getting arrested mid-sip at the local coffee hangout? I didn’t see that one coming.
I’ve been accused of purposely helping the Reapers free Loki from his prison—and the person leading the charge against me is Linus Quinn, Logan’s dad. The worst part is that pretty much everyone at Mythos Academy thinks I’m guilty. If I’m going to get out of this mess alive, I’ll have to do it myself…

Goodreads

My Review:
After reading all three of the Mythos Academy books..I've been hooked on this series since I started it last year! Crimson Frost is another awesome book to a great series, and I keep liking this series as I read more!

One of my favorite parts of this book was the plot!! Jennifer Estep does a really great job of weaving an amazing story..with new characters and lots of intrigue! I was on the edge of my seat reading this book..not knowing what would happen next. I really like how Jennifer is able to make aspects of the book, that don't seem important at all the reader, become SO important. Definitely make sure you pay close attention to every scene in this book! They will become very important later on. I really liked that this book was action packed and didn't spend a whole lot of time explaining different mythologies and details, and instead really showed what was going on. The action and fight scenes in this book were awesome!

I also really liked the progression of the main character Gwen! Of course she's still her sarcastic, determined self, but she really becomes a strong person. I really liked seeing her growth as a character and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!! I was a little bit sad to see Logan and Gwen spend less time together in this book, but the introduction to new characters were a really great addition to the series.

Overall, this was a great third book to a really enjoyable series!! After leaving us on a cliffhanger at the end of this book, I can't wait to see what's in store next!!

Kate must choose.

During nine months of captivity, Kate Winters has survived a jealous goddess, a vengeful Titan and a pregnancy she never asked for. Now the Queen of the Gods wants her unborn child, and Kate can't stop her--until Cronus offers a deal.

In exchange for her loyalty and devotion, the King of the Titans will spare humanity and let Kate keep her child. Yet even if Kate agrees, he'll destroy Henry, her mother and the rest of the council. And if she refuses, Cronus will tear the world apart until every last god and mortal is dead.

With the fate of everyone she loves resting on her shoulders, Kate must do the impossible: find a way to defeat the most powerful being in existence, even if it costs her everything.

Even if it costs her eternity.

Summary:
Perfect for the fans of Shatter Me who are desperately awaiting the release of Unravel Me, this novella-length digital original will bridge the gap between these two novels from the perspective of the villain we all love to hate, Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45.In Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me, Juliette escaped from The Reestablishment by seducing Warner—and then putting a bullet in his shoulder. But as she’ll learn in Destroy Me, Warner is not that easy to get rid of. . .
Back at the base and recovering from his near-fatal wound, Warner must do everything in his power to keep his soldiers in check and suppress any mention of a rebellion in the sector. Still as obsessed with Juliette as ever, his first priority is to find her, bring her back, and dispose of Adam and Kenji, the two traitors who helped her escape. But when Warner’s father, The Supreme Commander of The Reestablishment, arrives to correct his son’s mistakes, it’s clear that he has much different plans for Juliette. Plans Warner simply cannot allow.
Set after Shatter Me and before its forthcoming sequel, Unravel MeDestroy Me is a novella told from the perspective of Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45.

My Review:

With the second book in the series, Unravel Me, not coming out until February, Destroy Me was exactly what I needed to get me even more excited!  Shatter Me is one of my favorite books and reading this short novella from Warner's point of view was wonderful.

Warner seems mean, irrational, and just plain evil in the first book, but with this short section from his point of view I am not so sure anymore.  Abused as a child and living in constant fear of rebellion, Warner secretly tries to do good without anyone noticing.  He really does care for the people in his sector and wants the best for them, even though he knows that The Reestablishment is oppressing everyone.  On top of that, he truly does love Juliette, even though she does not feel the same way about him and she loves Adam.  I actually felt bad for Warner in this novella; he really loves Juliette but he just does not know how to show it.  Throughout Shatter Me he truly thinks that he is helping her develop her power and become more confident, even though he is really destroying her.  During the entire first book I was convinced that Warner was an evil man, but I just don't see him as a villain anymore.  Now, it appears that his father, who is every bit as mean and manipulative as you would think, is the true villain who, as even Warner agrees, must be stopped.

This insight into Warner's mind was truly brilliant.  I have never once felt so bad for and at the same time so confused by the villain in a story.  Anyone who has read Shatter Me will absolutely love this novella about Warner, and if you have not read Shatter Me then I suggest you pick it up as soon as possible; it's a book that you really can't put down until you finish it, and even then you will want to read it again!  I can't wait to read Unravel Me when it comes out in February!
